They applied natural-language processing and machine learning to identify individuals with AI-related project experience, keywords, certifications, or education included in online profiles and published articles. The data was compiled by analytics firm LeadGenius and Punks & Pinstripes, a network of Fortune 500 executives. The remaining roughly 10% went to other industries outside of tech and finance. Approximately 20% of AI talent that left the banks stayed in the finance industry, while the vast majority (about 70%) left for tech companies. The difficulty banks have retaining AI talent, however, isn't due to poaching among peers. The hires at the banks - Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo - range from engineers and product managers to senior and C-level executives.īut, on average, for every AI employee banks have hired during that time period they've lost one, according to the data.
